WHAT I ACTUALLY WEAR
IN A WEEK!
I ran one of these back in November, and it was a surprisingly big hit. I figured that it was time for another now that seasons have blessedly changed! I think I’ll remove this from THE WARDROBE vertical and make it a recurring installment of its own, as it’s lots of fun to do...let me know what you think. Sending this one without a paywall, so everybody weigh in!
It’s funny seeing this November series six months later…I already feel like my style has changed! Clothing is amazing. :)
I share lots of what I wear on my Instagram, but the majority of those outfits are what I wear when I’m at work, which is actually the easiest slice of my life when it comes to clothes. I love being dressed up! I struggle more in the in-between moments—soccer practice, family dinners, travel days—that necessitate a bit more pragmatism. I’m fascinated by what others wear in these situations, as this always feels like the toughest piece to slot into the puzzle of my personal style. For this reason, I chose to document a week with lots of practical constraints: a toddler graduation, a teenage graduation, a picnic in the park, a 96-degree day at work, and a glamourous Prada party just to even things out.
MONDAY 1 JUNE 2026
The outfit: Vintage Pacha tee, Agent Provocateur neon bra, Only Hearts leopard velour capris, Repetto Mary Janes, Trash and Vaudeville belt, Louis Vuitton Speedy that I painted with a lamb years ago!, Miu Miu sunglasses.
The day: Grocery shopping, errands all over the city, school pick up and many hours at the park with my kids.
Honestly, this is a perfect outfit for running errands. No notes for myself here! Actually, I will say that the green bra felt a little sexy for preschool pick up, but what’s life without a little spice?
TUESDAY 2 JUNE 2026
The outfit: Sandy Liang dress (found it on TheRealReal, love it so much I think I’ll get one of these as well), Comme Si socks, Miu Miu flats, Sacai bag (samesies but green).
The day: Writing at home, a design meeting, family dinner.
Each season I get a little bit sad about the things that I won’t be able to wear again until the weather changes. I knew this would probably be my last day with this Sandy Liang dress until October, so I had to take her out on the town! Other than that, this is my sort of silhouette uniform to which I’ve alluded many times: long sleeve minidress, socks/tights, flats.
You may have noticed in my last outfit newsletter that I’m a bit fixated on this random old Sacai bag right now. I’ve had it in my closet for a couple years but it only really started hitting a few weeks ago. The Hawaiian print is such a good hint of summer days ahead, and the soft shape feels really fresh against more structured clothes. A little dust bag or canvas tote would have the same effect, I think.
WEDNESDAY 3 JUNE 2026
The outfit: Christopher Kane Resort 2011 dress (maybe you want the skirt?), Comme Si socks, Miu Miu flats, Trash and Vaudeville Belt, Sacai bag.
The day: My kids’ ‘graduation’ ceremony (Pre-K to…Pre-K), followed by an ice cream party.
I have many items in my closet that are topical for preschool events (clown earrings, race car blouses…), but I settled on my beloved space print dress since the kids have just finished learning about outer space. Did any of them care about my outfit? No! But I love to be on theme.
Then it was off to the Prada Satellites II activation, drinks with my husband, and dinner with our friends, all of which necessitated a change into the outfit below!
The second outfit: Los Angeles Apparel envelope neck tee, Miu Miu S/S 2010 pants, Miu Miu S/S 2010 Reissue platforms, Sacai bag, Miu Miu sunglasses.
These pants—the latest spoil of my Poshmark addiction—arrived mere moments before I had to depart for the Prada party, so naturally I had to wear them! I thought it would be funny to do a Miu Miu look at the Prada party…again, very few probably cared about this, but we must entertain ourselves somehow. I originally planned to wear them with the matching blouse from the runway, but the full look was feeling a little fussy. I find people often look over-styled at these PR functions, so I try to skew in the opposite direction. This Los Angeles Apparel tee evokes last year’s Miu Miu Petit Bateau collab (for 1/10th of the price) and also felt more casual and sexy (I’m trying to be a bit sexy this summer, okay?!). Now I can say this is what I was wearing when I locked eyes with Miuccia Prada herself! One for the personal archive.
THURSDAY 4 JUNE 2026
The outfit: J’Adore Dior tee, Miu Miu S/S 2010 pants, Converse, Wm. J. Mills & Co. bag, Miu Miu sunglasses, my grandfather’s pocket square as a headscarf.
The day: Taking my kids to the Costume Institute for some day-off education, lunch at frozen yogurt at Butterfield, and a big family party for their cousin’s high school graduation.
Mostly tactical for a day with my kids: sneakers, roomy bag, t-shirt and headscarf for a sweaty walk through the park. My husband bought me this vintage top for my birthday years ago, then hid it so well that he forgot about it and only rediscovered it last weekend. What a gift!
This is also a real embodiment of what I meant in the last installment of this series when I said to just wear the things you have in your wardrobe! A Dior tee and a pair of Miu Miu trousers might not be the most appropriate outfit for a day with little kids (cut to me furiously scrubbing chocolate off myself in the Met bathroom), but it feels infinitely more my style than jeans and a white t-shirt. Also, for what it’s worth, both these items were sub-$150 on resale sites. I find it dizzying to read through outfit credits where it seems like everyone is wearing designer all the time, and I always feel self-conscious listing my own purchases out on here. These things are precious to me because of their emotional and aesthetic value, but I paid Zara-equivalent prices for them! I just need you to know that.
FRIDAY 5 JUNE 2026
The outfit: Cecilie Bahnsen top, Made Some shorts (we have some of the red left at Mess!), Mess exclusive Emma Nissen beaded flip flops, Bonton kids tote bag, Les Beads necklace, Miu Miu sunglasses.
The day: A long, hot, beautiful day working in the shop and some ice cream on the way home.
As I said before, getting dressed for work is usually my easiest task, but on this day I was faced with the challenge of putting together something relatively presentable for a steamy 96-degree day when I wanted absolutely nothing touching my skin. Is this sheer top wholly professional? Probably not, but I am my own boss.
These Made Some shorts are the best! Lightweight, waterproof, flattering on almost everyone, and so fun to style. They have legitimately been flying off the shelves at Mess. We’re getting another delivery of them in next week, so come in and try them on.
Well, what did you wear last week?!
