TRIMMINGS!
Simone on sale, Sofia at Versailles, Marc in the market.
Good news for us all: Sofia Coppola is celebrating Marie Antoinette’s twenty year anniversary with an exhibition at Versailles. See you all in line outside the Petit Trianon on September 22nd?!

Marc Jacobs puts forward a new silhouette. I am smitten. Of course I’ve seen the comparisons to Prada, which are not wholly accurate but definitely understandable, and I think it’s wonderful! Marc has always been a collector of other designers, and I love when his love of the industry is translated into his own work.
It’s also worth noting that several bigwigs from LVMH were seated in the front row, apparently rapt, as the group has decided to reinvest in Marc after the sale of his brand by them fell through last year. We (well, definitely I) talk a lot about how commercial pressure on designers can strangle creativity, but sometimes (sometimes!) the capitalist need for newness can also drive a brand forward. I’m not sure we would’ve seen these clothes without a little pressure from the fashion market, and I’m really glad they’re here. Double-edged sword and all that.
I’m also met with a sudden need to wear my coat backwards.

Simone Rocha stuff is randomly on super-sale on Yoox. Like-sub $200 sale. You didn’t hear it from me!

Obviously I enjoyed this. Also how was I previously unaware of this podcast?! Such a good concept.

Documenting Fashion by my friend, mentor, and former professor Rebecca Arnold is finally here! My copy has just arrived, and I cannot wait to dive into it this weekend. She is brilliant, her knowledge of imagery is encyclopedic, and it is a delight to see her talk about a time period about which she is so palpably passionate: the 1920s and 1930s!
