Welcome back to your annual diary of how I dressed myself at Copenhagen Fashion Week! I’ll spare you any philosophising here, as I’ve got a piece on my summer dressing theory coming out next week. Instead, here’s the meat and potatoes (micro shorts and t-shirts) of what I wore for a busy week of shows and showrooms.
For the first time ever, I didn’t pre-plan any outfits. I just kind of threw together a suitcase full of everything I’m loving right now…but, as I said, more on that later. I wore two outfits per day: one for daytime obligations and one for nighttime. I also obviously wore a lot of things from Mess—not just because I am obligated to represent it but because these are the clothes that I live my life in every single day! Come on now, I’ll show you.
TRAVEL DAY: Mess exclusive Brooke Callahan pants, Los Angeles Apparel baseball tee, Miu Miu flats and sunglasses, Mess exclusive Valiese tote bag.
After last summer’s research into what stylish people wear on the plane—my biggest outfit-making conundrum—my travel outfits have definitely improved. Am I like thrilled with them? No. But is anyone?
WHAT DO STYLISH PEOPLE WEAR ON THE AIRPLANE?
I am perennially confounded by the question of what to wear on the airplane. I think we all fancy ourselves a bit of a Kate Moss, strutting out of the airport with that Alaïa leopard bag, harried but fabulous. The best I’ve managed yet on a flight is her unbrushed hair—the Alaïa remains firmly out of reach. I have been unable to forget the piece of mid-2010s gossip that Alexa Chung wore her hot pants even on long-haul flights. My germophobia, however, makes me dry heave at the thought of my bare thighs touching the airplane seat. I have an image of Brigitte Bardot sitting at Newark in 1965 clad in a tweed skirt suit, sporty sunglasses, and a pair of black knee-high boots saved to laptop as inspiration, but every time I visit it I am only reminded of the fact that I do not own any of these items myself.

DAY 1, DAYTIME: Mess ‘Retail Relics’ tee, Miu Miu S/S 2017 bloomers, Flowze sandals, Miu Miu sunglasses, loads of old jewlery.
Straight off the plane into a full day of shows! Here I am with my friend and talented COO of CPHFW Isabella Rose Davey, whose impressive tenure there came to a close this season. She’s the reason any of us outside of the Nordics have heard about (and love) CPHFW, and she deserves so much recognition for the insane amount of work she has done with a tiny team. <3
